Secrets to Quality Feed and Smart Mills

I had the opportunity to present at the Animal Feed Seminar “Secrets to Quality Feed and Smart Mills” hosted by Bühler in conjunction with the VICTAM 2024 exhibition in vibrant Bangkok on March 13.

During the seminar I presented about the technology to produce Floating Fish Feed, Shrimp Feed and Micropellets.

Floating Fish Feed: In this session I explored the cutting-edge techniques for producing high-quality floating fish feed. From increased raw material flexibility, sustainable ingredients to optimal extrusion processes, we delved deep into the science behind floating fish feed.

Shrimp Feed: I unveiled some of the secrets behind producing high quality shrimp feed at high throughputs. A new die design technology as well as a novel drying process were discussed that support the further growth of this exciting business.

Micropellets: Micropellets play a crucial role in animal nutrition. We dissected different micropellet production methods including their pro’s and con’s. A groundbreaking technology to produce pellet sizes down to 0.3 mm while maintaining a significant production capacity was disclosed.

At the seminar, connections were made, ideas blossomed, and knowledge flowed. In case you missed it, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Pet Food and Aqua Feed Workshop

From February 26th-29th 2024 the Pet Food & Aqua Feed Workshop, organized by Value Nutrition Academy, was held at the Bühler Uzwil headquarters. More than 20 participants from all over the world came together to share their knowledge and expertise in this industry.

Expert engineers and technologists conducted informative sessions focused on Pet food & Aqua feed Extrusion: machinery, equipment and extrusion process, market trends, quality control, plant-based protein in Pet Food. The workshop also included important discussions on the advantages of using insect protein in pet food and aqua feed, as well as insights on drying processes and energy-saving solutions.

I contributed with sessions on

How to influence the quality of aquatic feeds,

How to produce high quality shrimp and micro feed at sufficient capacities

as well as

How to effectively operate the vacuum lipid coating process.

Every theory lesson was followed by a hands-on session in the Extrusion Application Center, allowing participants to put theory into practice.

Food and Nutrition Security: The Feed and Aquaculture Perspective

I enjoyed participating online in a seminar in Ibadan, Nigeria, on the 28th September, 2023, sharing the latest developments and trends in fish feed production technology.

During the seminar I covered the most important steps to produce extruded floating fish feeds for tilapia and catfish.

The session highlighted the importance of optimal processing to create options to increase raw material flexibility and reduce production costs.

As raw materials are the most important cost driver in fish feeds, a small improvement in this area will have a big impact on the bottom line of a fish feed production business.

Aqua feed progressing on Innovation & Sustainability

I was honored to be invited by Bühler Vietnam to share my expertise in aqua feed at the Seminar “Aqua feed progressing on Innovation & Sustainability!”, held on June 20th, 2023 at the Nikko Saigon Hotel.

I presented the latest trends and technologies in fish and shrimp feed processing, bulk density control during aqua feed production, and various strategies to optimise profitability.

I enjoyed the lively discussion and interaction with more than 40 participants in the animal and aqua feed industry who attended the seminar. They asked almost 40 questions in the Q&A section, showing their interest and enthusiasm.

This was a really valuable opportunity for me to connect with various attendees and to exchange knowledge and experience.

I would like to thank Bühler Vietnam, all participants, partners and journalists for their participation and support. I hope to see you again in future events.

Process optimisation in a balanced feed plant

I am very pleased to have participated as one of the speakers at the seminar “Process optimisation in a balanced feed plant” organised by L+J Baechler Ingenieros and Bühler in Lima, Peru, from 25 to 28 April 2023.

During the seminar I covered “Aqua Feed Production Technologies” on day 4 of the seminar.

Main topics were the current and future trends in aqua feeds, all key aqua feed production technologies, strategies to produce sinking and floating feeds, the production of high fat feeds, and how to produce small feeds at high capacities.

Global Aqua Feed Experts Share Insights on Achieving Optimal Aqua Feed Quality

Optimise aqua feed production

7 July webinar will focus on factors to manage in aqua feed production

30 June, 2022, Amersfoort, the Netherlands – As geopolitical tensions continue to challenge both the supply and price of feed grains, two renowned aquaculture experts will present strategies to optimize the quality, durability and economics of aqua feed. Presented on Thursday, 7 July,  “Optimise aqua feed production”, is a one-hour webinar led by Jan Jonkers and Dr. Saravanan Subramanian. The episode on aqua feed is the latest programme in Selko’s global webinar series.

Drawing on a rich background in R&D and experience optimizing production in commercial aqua feed production environments, Jonkers and Dr. Subramanian will share practical advice on the parameters that comprise feed quality and review strategies to optimise aqua feed quality during various stages of production including grinding, conditioning and extrusion.

The webinar will demonstrate how improving feed quality parameters can benefit not only various aquatic species, but can potentially enhance the performance of farm equipment, feed mill operations and ultimately the brand value of commercial aqua feed. Content will expand upon the factors involved in aqua feed processing and quality management to consider how process moisture can influence feed hygiene, feed durability and potentially energy efficiency at the production facility.

“Thoughtful consideration of quality parameters can significantly reduce variation in aqua feed, enhance durability, manage stability and achieve consistent quality,” said Jan Jonkers from Jan Jonkers Consultancy“The efficiency and economics of every aspect of production must be considered at times when input costs are on the rise.”
